Lessons from Coaching for Improving Organisational Performance
With Penny Holburn - Experienced Coach and OD Practitioner
Our recent Football coup, and indeed all world sporting events, demonstrate examples of great performance. And the people who get the athletes to the super performance levels are the coaches. While coaching may have started with sport, society went on to realise that it is not only in sport that people want to excel. We want success in health, business, career, relationships, finances and every other aspect of our lives. And so business, financial, career, success and life coaching (amongst others) were born – all utilising many of the same principles that sports coaches use.
One area where coaching can add huge benefits is in the organisation. Now there are coaches who work one-on-one with executives and other individuals in organisations, but we have still not utilised our knowledge of coaching for overall organisational success. In this discussion we will be looking at what some of these principles and practices are that coaches use, and how they can be used to a considerably greater extent in organisations – and not just for those few selected executives who are personally coached – to achieve sizeable improvements in performance.
